Description

Freedom is stil an issue. Is freedom unlimited or are there limits. People and nations today wrestle with this issue. Consider these ideas as you dress this issue in your life and world.

"A Christian man is the most free lord of all, and subject to none, a Christian man is the most dutiful servant of all, and subject to every one.

Although these statements appear contradictory, yet, when they are found to agree together, they will make excellently for my purpose. . . .

Let us examine the subject on a deeper and less simple principle. Man is composed of a twofold nature, a spiritual and a bodily. As regards the

spiritual nature, which they name the soul, he is called the spiritual, inward, new man; as regards the bodily nature, which they name the flesh, he is

called the fleshly, outward, old man. The Apostle speaks of this: "Though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day " (2 Cor. iv. 16). The result of this diversity is that in the Scriptures opposing statements are made concerning the same man, the fact being that in the same man these two men are opposed to one another; the flesh lusting against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh.

We first approach the subject of the inward man, that we may see by what means a man becomes justified, free, and a true Christian; that is, a spiritual, new, and inward man. It is certain that absolutely none among outward things, under whatever name they may be reckoned, has any influence in producing Christian righteousness or liberty, nor, on the other hand, unrighteousness or slavery. This can be shown by an easy

argument."

These are the thoughts that this book seeks to explore. They are thoughts of importantance for every Christian or every generation.

This book was written and distributed throughout the world in 1520 through the printing press. This was one of the most significant of his writings. Luther published his writings both in Latin (for the clergy) and German for the common people to read and understand. This was a positive and devotional work that enhanced the understanding of faith and personal freedom drawn from the scriptures.

This book did not come out of no where. The Reformation began in 1517, on October 31st, when Martin Luther a monk and professor at the new University of Wittenberg, nailed 95 Thesses on the Castle Church door, for all to see and read. The Reformation was driven by the writings of Luther from 1517-1545.

These words if true are true in any age. Ponder these thoughts and draw your own conclusion.

Freedom a Balance of Rights and Responsibilities

:
As I write this on July 4, 2009 that Freedom in the world at large or in our personal lives is a balance. This book allows the exploration of this topic at a price we cannot afford to pass up. Written in the 1500's but still fresh.
